Night One: Sacramento NCCC

Fitting was fun...So after nearly a year of planning, paperwork, and doubts, I finally made it to Sacramento. The flight was at the crack of 6:20am. Thanks Uncle Sam.

I made it to all of my flights just in time to keep from having to rush, but I still didn't have to wait long either. Once in Sacramento, I quickly found the guy holding the NCCC sign and got to see who else was in the program that I had been on the plane with. One guy sat next to me the entire ride from Spokane to Portland to Sac Town... but I was tired and didn't feel like striking up a conversation. Turned out to be someone that found this blog when checking out NCCC websites. Small world. Thx google.com

We were the first flight to be picked up from the airport, so we had some time to spare and went to Jamba Juice for a pre-in-processing treat. I tried to rush through all of the different check-in stages to get everything done before the rush. This didn't work. I didn't pay any attention to the directions, had to go through the line a few times, and walked in the girl's bathroom while they were changing instead of the guys. Yep, I was here less than 2 hours and I was already 'that guy.' Another point for patience. It is not enough to will yourself to be invisible.

After all of that, I came back to the room and unpacked a little. I met my suite mate Matt, and we talked for a while then went to get lunch. Afterwards, we explored what we could of the North Highlands. Not really a place I would move on purpose, and not really pedestrian friendly, but the weather is great.

I took a nap, left my door open, and was woken by some girls making sure I didn't sleep through dinner. It was mediocre at best, but it gave me a chance to wake up a little and talk with some more people. I wanted to buy bedsheets, so we went over to the BX. Tax free stuff rocks.

My roommate finally came in. Ryan is from the East coast and spent the day on planes. At least I only had one. We had a team meeting going over really basic rules and outlining a little bit of what was to come of the CTI (Corps member Training Institute).

I came back and decided to try on all the clothing just in case. Sure enough, my pants are all a little weird. That's what I get for walking into the girls bathroom...
